Police in Lilongwe are keeping in custody a 21-year-old man for raping a three-year-old girl.

According to Kanengo police public relations officer Salome Chibwana, the suspect James Boni sexually abused the girl at a graveyard.

“The incident happened at Mgona and was reported by the mother to the child who said she was busy cooking when she was informed by a friend that her daughter was found at the graveyard,” Chibwana.

The child later disclosed that she was feeling pain in her private parts and when the mother checked her she saw blood on the child’s private parts.

A test at the hospital confirmed that the child was raped.

The suspect was later arrested after being identified by the victim who revealed that the 21 year old man took her to the graveyard where he raped her.

Boni who is expected to appear before court soon comes from Thekerani in Thyolo district.
