Big Bullets now a few miles away from Canaan

Malawi giants Big Bullets continued their march towards the Super League title with a convincing 2-0 victory over fellow title contenders Silver Strikers at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Dalitso Sailesi and Mussa Manyenje were on target for the people’s team to welcome their new sponsors Nyasa Manufacturing Company (NMC) who will be pumping in K0.5 billion in the next five years.

The win means the defending champions have moved to 47 points, 10 ahead of Mafco and 12 ahead of the Bankers with a game in hand to move closer to defending their title.

The home side were without Sankhani Mkandawire and Jafali Chande but this did not stop them from outsmarting the Lilongwe based giants who were without Blessings Kameza and Tizgobere Kumwenda due to injuries.

Silver were the first to attack through Green Harawa but Bullets’ defenders were very much alert to clear the danger away.

At the other end, Chiukepo Msowoya almost pulled a shocker when his 30 metre drive was deflected for a corner.

Bullets were possessing more threat no wonder they got their opener in style following a brilliant display of football from MacFallen Ngwira who released Manyenje and the strikers striker’s shot was diverted into Sailesi’s path to make a cool finish, 1-0.

Few minutes later, Jelesi Lufeyo’s header from a Yamikani Fodya’s free kick went off the bar, leaving all Bullets fans into total disbelief.

Harawa and Ndaziona Chatsalira had their moments but man of the match Chimwemwe Kumkwawa was very alert between the sticks for the hosts. Miracle Gabeya was then substituted for Dave Ng’ambi.

The last 15 minutes of the half belonged to the visitors but the Bullets defence stood firm to deny them from coming back into the game.

Come second half, it only took less than 10 minutes for the hosts to double their lead. A long ball from Lufeyo caught the Bankers’s defence napping, allowing Manyenje to volley past Blessings Banda in goals for the visitors, 2-0.

The hosts were on fire as James Chilapondwa, Ngwira, Lufeyo, Msowoya and Manyenje pressed harder in search for more goals.

The Bankers brought in Wonder Jereman and Chimwemwe Chisambi for Blessings Tembo and Victor Limbani but this had a very little impact as the midfield battle was still won by Bullets.

Chisambi could have reduced the arrears when he dribbled past Chikondi Likwemba only to be denied by Kumkwawa who produced a fantastic save.

Msowoya’s penalty shout appeal was turned by the referee who waved play on, much to the disappointment of the former Orlando Pirates forward.

Despite the Bankers pushing hard for the two important goals as the game wore to a close, Bullets were able to maintain their lead to wrestle vital three points that will surely hand them the title with few games to play.

The result sees Bullets opening a 10 point gap over second placed Mafco with a game in hand.

Bullets are almost in the promised land and if they win their next three games, the title will remain with them for another season.
