An Inspector from the Malawi police has been detained in relation to a voice note (VN) that implicates Information Minister Moses Kunkuyu in the harrowing murder of Allan Wittika.
The officer identified as Susan Kachinga has been arrested together with Mercy Chiligo and Chipiliro Kalima.
“MPS has charged the three with cyberbullying and defamation of character which are crimes under the Electronic Transactions and Cyber-Security Act and Penal Code, respectively. They will be taken to court in Blantyre soon after their statements are taken,” says the statement.
Wittika was murdered last month in Lilongwe and Police last week arrested Lester Maganga, a personal assistant to Kunkuyu, over the murder.
Maganga allegedly killed Wittika because the two were going out with the same woman.
Following Maganga’s arrest, an audio circulating on social media claimed that Maganga was allegedly sent by his boss to commit the crime and that government officials had met over the matter.
The author of the audio claimed that she had heard this from her friend Chipiliro who is friends with Susan who was allegedly one of the officers involved in the murder investigations.
Police yesterday said in a statement that the contents of the audio are false ad hat the police were not investigating Kunkuyu over the murder of Wittika.
Police have since warned that they will arrest anyone found circulating false claims on social media.
