The Blantyre first grade magistrate court has released on bail a man who was arrested for posting a picture likening first Lady Gertrude Mutharika to the cartoon Rango.
The man Tumpale Mwakibinga was arrested on Tuesday. He was charged with insulting the modesty of a woman and was denied bail.
However, the suspect has today been granted bail by the Blantyre First Grade Magistrate Court on several conditions.
First Grade Magistrate Tsoka Banda has told Mwakibinga to make a payment of a non-cash bond of K100,00 and not to post anything on social media relating to madam Gertrude Mutharika.
The accused has been told to report to Southern Region Police offices once a month and to provide one person as a surety.
The First Grade Magistrate Tsoka Banda, said that the trial is to commence on 31 May 2019, at 10am.
Following Mwakibinga’s arrest, Malawians condemned the Democratic Progressive Party administration for showing dictatorial tendencies.
