Devotion: Stay connected to your Source

Joh 15:5“ I am the vine. You are the branches. He who remains in me, and I in him, the same bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing…”

You should never be tempted to think that you are big enough and hence dont need God. Never think you have enough wealth and dont need God or you are too successful to need Him. Deu 8:17-18 BBE “Say not then, in your hearts, My power and the strength of my hands have got me this wealth. But keep in mind the Lord your God: for it is he who gives you the power to get wealth, so that he may give effect to the agreement which he made by his oath with your fathers, as at this day.”

It happens at times that when things are small, people labour so hard in prayer,in giving, in fasting and other spiritul activities. Once they grow, they think they no longer need much prayer because they are too big for that. Dont be that type of Christian. The opening scripture  says the branch detached from its source of life which is the tree itself, cannot live. It dies. Man has His source from God Himself. Man detached from God and His Word is useless though people may think he is thriving.

Genesis 1: 11, 26“Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so….Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” God spoke to the land to produce vegetations and other trees.

This shows us that the source of life of trees is in the soil (land). Immediately you take the  tree from the land it withers and that is the end.  When you read verse 20 He spoke to water to produce fish and others. The source of the life of fish is in the water. Even if a fish may survive for hours outside the water, it will eventually die. In verse 26 God did not speak to anything else to produce man.

God spoke to Himself to produce man. This shows that the source of man’s life is in God Himself. Man cannot live outside God and His Word.  Jesus says man cannot live by bread alone but by the Word of God. You need God in everything even if you have ceased from any struggles. Matt 4:4 “But he answered, “It is written, ‘ Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God .”
