In a bid to ensure that stories from children are well documented and acted upon by donors, World Vision has taken an extra gear in training registered children, teachers, volunteers and sponsorship staff in photography and videography.
More than 50 registered children in the Central Region and over 40 sponsorship officers and volunteers, including selected primary school teachers have so far been trained nationally since the start of 2016 with funding from support offices.
The training programs in photography, video shooting, editing and storytelling are still continuing in various zones to spread the voice of a child globally.
This follows news that most children in families are not given the privilege to make choices or express their thoughts even in the face of challenges they are facing.
With World Vision’s target of 5.5 million children (directly and indirectly) by 2020 in line with the strategic plan, more children are destined for improved knowledge in such fields.
Speaking during a training held in Dedza, World Vision Malawi sponsorship manager, Harry Wala, urged teachers and sponsorship staff to ensure that they also champion story telling in schools so that voices of children are heard.
He said while the art of storytelling could be nose diving, World Vision is poised to making the art one of the best pillars in as far as education of a child is concerned.
“Children should be offered a platform to tell their own stories through video and pictures, including mere storytelling. This in the eyes and ears of our support offices is enough evidence that their support is benefiting targeted children,” he said.
“With this training, we hope that our staff and teachers will capture quality videos and pictures so that donors appreciate how their funds are utilized,” he said.
Wala added that through story telling children speak their mind without any fear or favour, hence, the need to train staff and such teachers who work closely with World Vision to champion the well-being of children.
“These training programs are worthwhile as they help children have the technical know-how so they tell their own stories through videos and pictures. Since World Vision is child focused organisation, we will do more to uplift their lives,” said Wala.
Initially, pictures and stories of children are sent to donors to ascertain how their support is benefiting in areas of nutrition, education, agriculture, among others.
Most parents of beneficiaries have hailed the model World Vision has taken to guide children how to tell stories, get pictures and videos.
