Charcoal burning in Malawi on the rise.

The department of Forestry says it is concerned with the recent increase in illegal possession, vending and transportation of charcoal.

In a press statement the ministry said that the act is becoming major driver of forest degradation According to the statement, the ministry will intensify the clean-up operations to get rid of illegal possession, vending and transportation of charcoal and other forest produce.

The press release attributed that the ministry is working hand in hand with relevant roads authority and other law enforcement will work around the clock to end the nasty behavior.

The ministry has finally warned the general public that they will not tolerate any excuses and if anyone is caught the law will take its course, and that sections 68, 78 and 81 of forest Act will be used to empower the department to reduce the cases..

Government has been campaigning for preservation of natural resources especially trees as a way of containing climate change and preventing such disasters like floods.

    1. And After Heavily Fined They’ll Carry On Burning Even Most.Solution To Stop This Practice Starts From The Government Itself By Making Energy Affordable To Everyone.Look Wity,We Are The Same People Who Are Suffering Intensive Blackouts Day In And Day Out And We Are The Same People Too Hit By Electricity And Energy Tarrif Rise.We Don’t Have Other Options But To Depend On Charcoal.I Believe These Charcoal Burners Know Somebody Is In Dire Need Of Energy Somewhere And Will Buy Their Product At Any Cost.See,They’re Not Even An Inch Wrong Because There’s No Other Way We Can Fight This Situation Back Without Government’s Serious Intervention To Simplify Our Daily Dependance On Energy.
