United Democratic Front leader, Atupele Muluzi has denied reports that his father, former Malawi president Bakili Muluzi, is critically ill.
The development follows social media reports indicating that Bakili is ill and has been admitted at of one of the country’s hospitals.
The rumours which circulated on different Facebook pages and groups further indicated that the former President has been affected by stroke.
However, reacting to the rumours, Atupele who is also UDF’s presidential candidate said this is not true.
Atupele said he thinks the people spreading these reports want to undermine the UDF manifesto launch to be held this Sunday ahead of the May 21 polls.
“I have seen the rumours circulating about the former President being affected by a stroke. These rumours are simply not true and he is fit and well. These rumours are being circulated to undermine our Manifesto and campaign launch on April 7.
“We as a family would always inform the public immediately of such a serious issue and through appropriate official channels. Thank you for the concern that has been shown, but all is well. Thank you,” Muluzi said.
