Police in Mangochi have arrested two men for stealing two submersible water pumps from Mota Engil worth K2.2 million.
The incident occurred on the morning of Tuesday at Mota Engil camp site in the area of traditional authority Chimwala in Mangochi.
The two suspects have been identified as Thomas Kalorama (24) and Noel Nkhoma (40).
According to Mangochi Police Station Deputy Public Relations Amina Tepani Daudi, the security supervisor at the camp site Samson Mapira discovered that the pumps were removed from where they were planted as he was patrolling around the camp.
This prompted him and other guards to conduct a search. Luckily, the first suspect Kalorama was spotted exiting the camp carrying a sack bag.
They followed him and noted his destination before informing the Police.
The law enforcers rushed to scene and arrested the first suspect who led them to the second suspect Nkhoma and recovered the pumps which were hidden under his bed.
In the meantime all the suspects have been charged with Theft which is contrary to section 278 of the penal code and they will appear before court after investigations are over.
