The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has urged people of Karonga North Constituency to go and verify their names in the voters register when the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) conducts the fifth phase of voter verification from January 5 to January 9.
The call was made Saturday at Kiwe Primary school ground during a rally at Songwe Border organized by Blue Youth whose aim was to unveil the aspiring Member of Parliament and Ward Councillors to the constituents.
Speaking at the event, deputy regional governor for the Northern region Smart Mwakayira told the gathering to spare time and go to their respective registration centres to verify if indeed their names are in the voters register as that will help them to know if they will vote on May 21 next year.
“Let us seize this rare opportunity when the exercise begins here in Karonga to ascertain if indeed our names are there or not. This will help us to make an informed decision in case our names are not there,” Mwakayira said.
Taking his turn, an aspiring Member of Parliament for the area, Mwakisulwa Mwambande challenged the constituents to keep their voter certificates safe and vote for him, DPP Ward Councillors and Arthur Peter Mutharika for presidency if the area is to continue enjoying getting various developmental activities.
Mwambande said the DPP that has managed to construct the Karonga Stadium, Karonga Songwe road and Ngala Community Technical College.
“Once you vote for me I will bring the first ever boarding secondary school in this area, a thing that has been lacking over the past years,” Mwambande said.
DPP’s Blue Youth Wing Northern chapter chairperson Burnet Meke assured the community of the DPP’s youth league support in uplifting their wellbeing by among others initiating various developments and charity works that will benefit the elderly and underprivileged.
“We came here to officially introduce these aspirants to you. But then let me take this opportunity to tell you that as youths, we have lined up various programs that we are implementing in Karonga using our own resources to help the government uplift lives of the needy and the elderly,” Meke said.
