Another accident at Mapanjira claims one life

Less than a week after a tragic accident involving Malawi Defence Force (MDF) soldiers at Mapanjira in Mzimba, another accident occurred on Tuesday at the same place.

In the Tuesday accident, a man identified as Osward Nyirenda died while several other people sustained injuries.

NkhotakotaAccording to Police in Mzimba through public relations officer Peter Botha, the accident which involved a Van truck registration number MZ 1367 occurred due to overloading.

He said the  truck which was being driven by a driver who is at large had ten passengers on board and was coming from Jenda side going towards Mzuzu direction.

“Upon arrival at Mapanjira  the truck failed to ascend the  ascent due to overloading as it carried one hundred bags of cement and one hundred and twenty bags of maize. The vehicle started moving backwards and fell offside of the road,” said Botha.

Due to the impact, Nyirenda whose full particulars are not known by police sustained head injuries and died on the spot, two other people sustained serious injuries while the rest sustained general body pains.

All Injured people were referred to Mzimba District Hospital.

  24. When I said it last week that our roads need resurvey. Lot of people called me names and insults. The roads have funny blind curves. No visible road warning sign. Yes tar road are there but there are not good especially with these modern cars. Government please do something. We can pray whole night but we are like testing God. Trust me some of these accidents can be prevented. They can put fines ×100 but with these conditions we will carry on like this

The hatred we Malawians have against each other is just unacceptable, let’s try to follow up and find out always why something happened that way. Hopefully in Malawi we ain’t got forensic investigators, why can’t you spend time studying Forensic studies or if you know you are too cute for studies yourself why not sponsor somebody in the studies who will later have the last say on whatever accident happens in our country!

    7. The issue is not about region,the Mapanjira area my brother is steeply,as you drive you must be carefulness with some bends too.

      If we had enough resources our M1 road needs widening and resurfacing, imagine from Kasungu,I once remember the road was built early 1980’s,looks like lots of wearing outs and potholes.
