Son writes MSCE on father’s behalf

A 47-year-old man who works as a clerk at Mchinji District Council is in police custody together with his son after he wilfully hired the son to sit for the Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations on his behalf.

Mchinji Police Spokesperson Kaitano Lubrino told Malawi24 that Andrew Mvula is among 345 students sitting for this year’s MSCE examinations at Mchinji cluster centre where three secondary schools are writing the examinations.

According to Lubrino, both suspects were arrested on Monday, July 3 after a 22-year-old young man Andrew Mvula was spotted in the examination room writing Social and Development Studies Paper II with an ID card belonging to his father.

Police investigations established that the father had connived with and hired his son to write the paper on his behalf hence their arrest.

So far, the police have charged the son for having access to examination material without authority contrary to section 14 sub section 2A while his father will answer charges of hiring a person to write examinations on his behalf contrary to section 29 sub section 18 of MANEB Regulations Act.

The suspects will appear before court when investigations are concluded.
