Govt to construct stadiums in Ntcheu, Zomba

Malawi government through the Minister of Finance Goodall Gondwe has announced that government will construct stadiums in Zomba and Ntcheu.

Gondwe made the announcement during the mid-year budget review in Parliament.

“Expenditure on domestically funded projects has been revised upwards by 10.7 percent, from K38.6 billion to K42.7 billion, to finance the commencement of the construction of the Mombera University, some roads in the three cities, and stadiums in Ntcheu and Zomba,” said Gondwe.

The building of the new stadium in Ntcheu will be a relief to the people of the district as the only community stadium in the district was demolished and the land used for a bus depot.

In Zomba, it is coming at a time when Zomba community stadium is in a bad shape and not fit to host highly competitive games in Malawi.

Meanwhile, the government also has plans to renovate Kamuzu stadium.

I heard the minister of finance talking, he listed a number of projects which included the construction of Mombera university, Mzuzu airport, Zomba stadium, Ntcheu stadium just to menrion but a few.He said these will start soon using the 2016/17 budget.Malawi24 just heard of two stadiums.They could hv called the minister to cross check info. b4 giving us.

  44. HA! I don’t think construction of stadium can improve our economy. I would advise government to priotise industrialisation. Imagine we do import everything including tooth peak. Do we anticipate economic improvement with this?

  72. How interesting! If the minister did his home work he might have realized that people from Ntcheu do not need a stadium the most. They need water, electricity, hospital facilities with medicine in them. What is wrong with our leaders? Malawi @53 still has no running water in many districts. Our hospitals in a very depleted state.

  100. Its very strange to me that this is being annonced by Ministry of Finance. Where is the responsible ministry for this? This is exactly how corruption finds its way into gvt departments.

  101. I’m not against this development, but the govt should try to priotise general welfare of Malawians. We are in great need of quality water, electricity and food, try to priotise these things first!!!.!

    1. Those projects are already priotised,u miss the outlined number of projects that the govt is implementing eg kamwamba coal powered electricity.mulanje mountain and lake malawi water projects.
