Presidential Cup holders Mafco FC have vowed to cause a major upset in the semifinals of the cup when they travel to Blantyre to play wounded giants Big Bullets FC on Saturday at Kamuzu Stadium.

Speaking to Malawi24, Mafco FC coach Thomas Maloya said they are relishing the opportunity of adding more misery to Bullets family following their shock 1-nil defeat to rookies Karonga United on Sunday in the Super League.

Though admitting that his side is yet to register a win over Bullets in all competitions for the past three seasons, Maloya said Mafco FC will start their journey to defend the title by beating Malawi’s heavyweights.

“We respect Bullets as a professional team with great culture and tradition, but it will be another business on the field.

“We lost to them in the quarter-finals of the Carlsberg Cup on post-match penalties and we need to revenge that defeat and possibly defend this cup,” said Maloya.

On his part, Bullets technical director Billy Tewesa admitted that playing a motivated Mafco will be a tough ride.

“They were runners-up last year when we won the league and it won’t be easy playing them. It will definitely be a mountain to climb for us but we are preparing well for them and we are very optimistic of advancing to the finals,” he said.

Both teams have won the cup once with Bullets winning it in 2012 courtesy of a Gabadinho Mhango third minute strike against Moyale Barracks at Civo Stadium whilst Mafco beat Silver Strikers 10-9 on post-match penalties in 2013.

In the other semifinal match, 2009 winners Mighty Wanderers will be hosted by 2012 runners-up Moyale Barracks at Mzuzu Stadium in what promises to be another massive showdown in the 2016 edition of the Presidential Cup.
