Sulom fails to vacate Dedza’s injunction

The 2016 Super League playoff match involving Dedza Young Soccer and Airborne Rangers at Civo Stadium failed to take place on Saturday after the Super League of Malawi (Sulom) did not vacate the court order which was obtained by Dedza on Friday.

Dedza took the injunction to stop Sulom from proceeding with the Super League playoffs.

On Friday, there was drama at Civo Stadium when Wizards were playing against Airborne Rangers as Dedza Young Soccer’s lawyers stormed the stadium to issue the injunction to Sulom officials.

They began moving around with the court injunction, looking for Sulom officials in order to issue them the order and stop the playoffs.

But Sulom officials were nowhere to be seen as they were hiding and only got the injunction after the first playoff game involving Wizards and Airborne Rangers was over.

It is now not clear whether Sulom will take Wizards as the 16th team in the 2016 Super League because they won their game against Airborne Rangers or if they will try to vacate the court injunction and continue with the playoffs.

Dedza however want to be promoted automatically since they finished higher than Wizards and Airborne Rangers last season.

The first playoff match between Wizards F.C and Airborne Rangers saw the Blantyre based side win 2-1 with goals from Bernard Chimaimba and Patrick Phiri while Stain Malata scored the consolation goal for Airborne.
