Malawi 2015 Carlsberg Cup champions Mighty Wanderers FC has denied allegations that they owe money to a witch doctor known as Ayaya, a move that has led to the recent team’s poor run of form.

According to the club’s general secretary Mike Butao, the club does not know Ayaya.

“We have never been helped by the witch doctor, even if we had been helped we could have paid since we have money,” said Butao.

However, the general secretary said one of the country’s sports journalists is the one spreading such rumours.

“I think this thing is being spread by the same person who has been spreading false stories concerning Nomads.  In the past we heard him saying Kananji (Elia) was joining Blue Eagles and also Mulimbika (Francis) and Kumwenda (Kondwani) were on their way claiming he had evidence,” said the Butao.

The other debate on the same was ignited by JOY TV journalist, Peter Fote who claimed in a sports programme that the Lali Lubani side needs to settle dues with the witch doctor to walk over its jinx.

There had been reports that Balaka based witch doctor Ayaya helped Nomads to beat Big Bullets in the Carlsberg Cup final.
