Man commits suicide after testing HIV positive

A 31-year-old man in Blantyre hanged himself in his room after testing positive for HIV.

Assistant public relations officer for Limbe police station identified the deceased as Richard Chifuniro who was residing in Machinjiri, Blantyre.

“It is true that a man by the name of Richard Chifuniro   was found dead in his house after committing suicide,” he said.

According to Nhlane, Chifuniro went for HIV test and was found positive. The results traumatised him such that he decided to commit suicide.

When one of his relatives went to give him food, he found him hanging dead from the roof of the house.

The matter was reported to police who later took the dead body to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital for post-mortem.

The deceased hailed from Kalisiro Traditional Authority Njolomore in Ntcheu district.

Police have since advised people found HIV positive to live a positive life by following what health experts tell them.
