A 10 year-old boy has died after a Gmelina tree a man was cutting fell on him in Thyolo district Malawi24 can report.
Police assistant Public Relations Officer Widson Nhlane identified the deceased as Dinnes Paul Ntawinya and said the incident happened on 18 September 2016 at Nthiura village.
Nhlane said a man identified as 83 year-old Losani Mpanda was cutting a Gmellina tree at his house and when the child was passing by, the tree fell on him.
The child died on the spot and a postmortem at Thyolo district hospital revealed that death was due to head injuries. The deceased hailed from Nthiura village, Traditional Authority Bvumbwe in Thyolo district. Meanwhile, the police have advised members of the general public that when cutting big trees they should make sure that children are not around to avoid such incidences.
