The third edition of the Airtel Money national netball trophy will be launched today at Salima community centre ground.
Airtel Malawi, who sponsors the trophy, says the competition has been effective and working with Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) made it easy to run the cup.
“We are excited with how the competition has been run, though the money will not change this season,” said Michael Kafumba, an official from Airtel.
During the launch, there will be a game between Malawi Armed Forces College (MAFCO) netball team and Salima Select.
The trophy which was first launched in Lilongwe in October 2013 with a 360 million Kwacha sponsorship is now in its last year.
Each year, Airtel has been giving K70 million for the Airtel Money national trophy and K25.7 million for Malawi Queens.
The competition will start at a district level where the champions will qualify for the regional finals and top teams from each region will compete at the national finals.
Tigresses are defending champions of the Airtel Money national netball trophy after winning it in the past two seasons.
When it first launched the trophy, Airtel expected the competition to help the Queens and provide a platform to develop netball from the grassroots level and raise the profile of the sport across the country.
