…as Gerald Phiri returns to Mighty Tigers.
As the 2019 soccer season is fast approaching, Super League teams are busy with preparations and some have already made significant changes to their backroom staff, the latest being Masters Security FC who have acquired the services of Eliya Kananji.
According to media reports, the former Blantyre United, Be Forward Wanderers and Nyasa Big Bullets coach has joined the 2018 Carlsberg Cup champions on a three-year deal following an offer which was put forward by owner Alfred Gangata.
“From now onwards, I belong to Masters Security FC and I will be working hand in hand with my colleague Abbas Makawa.
“The decision has been made looking at what Masters Security FC owner Alfred Gangata put on the table and it was too difficult to turn down,” he told the local media.
Kananji, one of the successful local coaches, was dismissed by Bullets last year following their Carlsberg Cup semifinal loss to the side he has just joined.
In a related development, Gerald Phiri Senior has returned to Mighty Tigers as their head coach.
The former Bullets and Wanderers coach left the financially struggling team after he was appointed as the head coach for the senior team in 2017.
At MAFCO, Stereo Gondwe has also returned as the head coach following the team’s relegation to the Premier Division.
Gondwe was the man in charge of the team when MAFCO earned a promotion into the top flight football in 2009 and won the Presidential Cup a year later.
He will be deputised by Yohane Fulaye.
