Peter Wadabwa and Isaac Kaliyati netted in each halves to inspire Be Forward Wanderers to a hard fought 2-1 victory over Azam Tigers in a league match played at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The visitors were first to score through Peter Katsonga in the early minutes of the first half but Wadabwa scored a powerful header from a Stanley Sanudi’s cross.
Tigers made some changes in their defence, with Martin Chongwe and Nickson Mwase covering the back four alongside Peter Cholopi and Bonda Mpinganjira.
The Nomads only made a single change by returning Wadabwa to the first eleven. Wanderers started brightly in the midfield as Rafick Namwera in the midfield tormented Tigers’ defence like nobody’s business but Cholopi had Wadabwa in his pockets.
Tigers got their opener in a dramatic fashion when Wanderers’ defence failed to communicate, allowing Katsonga to pounce on the mistake before slotting past Richard Chipuwa in goals for the hosts, 1-0.
However,it only took minutes for the Nomads to put the match on level as Tigers’ defence was caught napping in the line of duty.
A cross from Sanudi met Wadabwa in the box who rose up higher in the sky before releasing a bullet header past Tigers shot-stopper William Thole, 1-1.
Come second half, the Nomads only took less than five minutes for them to take a lead through Kaliyati. Wadabwa was the architecture as his cross found Kaliyati unmarked in the box to head past Thole but his first attempt came off the bar before scoring in the second attempt.
The Nomads were on fire as Kaliyati, Wadabwa and Namwera pressed harder in search for more goals. Bello’s penalty shout was turned down by the officiating team.
Tigers introduced Dan Kumwenda for Katsonga while Jafali Chande came in for Bello.
At the other end, Yamikani Chester did everything in his power to try to force a draw but Foster Namwera and Boston Kabango at the back for the Nomads were too stubborn to unlock and after 90 minutes of play, it ended 2-1 in favour of the Lali Lubani boys.
The win takes the Nomads on 9th position with 17 points from ten games. As for Tigers, they are 6th with 20 points from 13 games.
The nomads have now managed to win three Super League games in a row. They beat Red Lions 3-1 before thumping Max Bullets 2-0.
