Malawi Congress Party (MCP) supporters are contemplating assassinating former acting chief executive officer of National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA) Helen Buluma who has implicated Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Members of Parliament and the Office of the President and Cabinet.
Buluma appeared before the Public Appointments Committee (PAC) of Parliament today where she alleged that Secretary to the President (SPC) Colleen Zamba pressurized her to sign fuel supply contracts with brokers allegedly identified by Zamba.
Buluma said the deals were dubious and raised suspicions of money laundering.
She also claimed that MCP MP Ndaila Onani demanded to take over a NOCMA owned fuel depot in Salima.
“Honourable Onani and his father have been coming to the office to harass us over Chipoka depot. Amati ndife a MCP ifeyo ma depot wo mutipatse tidziyendetsa ndife (He said he is a member of MCP and is entitled to run the fuel depot),” says Buluma.
The revelations have angered MCP supporters who have accused Buluma of undermining the government led by President Lazarus Chakwera.
In a WhatsApp group called Mighty Tambala, MCP members alleged that Buluma’s accusations are aimed at “ousting the government”. Some members proposed that she should be killed.
“If the worse comes to the worst, RIP in advance Buluma,” one member wrote on the WhatsApp group.
During the hearing at Parliament, Member of Parliament for Thyolo Thava Mary Thom Navicha proposed that Buluma should immediately be provided with security.
In the past, Buluma also raised concerns over her security after revealing that Chakwera’s aides and a minister attempted to influence supply deals at NOCMA.
