Police in Dedza have arrested a director of a private secondary school, Gift Zinkambani aged 30, on allegations that he sexually abused a female student at his school.
The law enforcers arrested the suspect on Thursday evening, November 10, 2022 and charged him with an offence of engaging in sexual intercourse with minor under one’s care or protection contrary to section 159A(b) of Penal Code.
According to Dedza police deputy publicist Sergeant Cassim Manda, on October 29, 2022, the said director took the female student (name withheld) from his school to Chipoka in Salima where they took beer together.
Later, they both left Chipoka to Mtakataka where they spent a night together in the suspect’s bedroom as his wife was not around.
On November 4, 2022, the victim together with the suspect went back to Chipoka and this time they were accompanied by the victim’s close friend. The victim went home very late while the other girl failed to go to her guardians at Mua.
Suspicious with the strange behaviour, both guardians decided to make a follow up and this led to the arrest of the suspect.
Zinkambani hails from Kafulama Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kachindamoto in Dedza District.
