Two people have been sentenced to 3 years imprisonment with hard labour each for stealing a motor vehicle.
The convicts are Evance Banda and Christopher Mahiya who stole the vehicle on November 23, 2018.
According to Limbe Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Widson Nhlane, Banda and Mahiya stole a Toyota Spacio registration number BQ 9479 which belongs to Daniel Chamanga at Come-together bottle store in Bangwe Township.
Nhlane added that on the evening of the day, Chimanga went to the bottle store and parked his vehicle outside the drinking place.
“When he decided to go back home, he found that his car was nowhere to be seen at the parking area and reported the matter to Bangwe police,” he explained.
The officers successfully recovered the motor vehicle and in the process, they managed to arrest the two men.
In court, Banda and Mahiya were found guilty of theft contrary to section 282(1) of the penal code and sentenced to 3 years imprisonment with hard labour.
