Musician Joseph Tembo politician was arrested on Friday evening for slapping a traffic police officer at Nathenje trading centre along Lilongwe and Dedza M1 road.
According to a police report, Tembo was summoned for assaulting a police officer whilst on duty.
The police report says the incident occurred on Friday when Inspector Ester Milopo together with her fellow officers were on duty at traffic check point at Nathenje trading centre.
Tembo approached them while driving from Blantyre to Lilongwe on his Volvo saloon car registration no MZ 9671.
The police officers report that they stopped him and was asked to produce a driver’s licence which he failed to comply.
The report says the suspect started insulting the police officer and later he slapped her before her fellow officers assisted her by restraining Tembo.
The report says the victim was issued with a police examination report for medication and was treated as an out patient at Nathenje Health Centre.
The police said Tembo is to appear in court soon.
Tembo has been charged with the assault offence as well three other charges; driving a motor vehicle without drivers licence c/s 18 (2) of RTA, driving a motor vehicle without certificate of insurance c/s151 of RTA and driving a motor vehicle without certificate of fitness c/s 69 (2) of RTA.
