Update: Police arrest one in gruesome attack on albino lady

Police have arrested a man identified as Joseph Ndimbwa in connection to the attack on Lucia Kainga, a lady with albinism who had her arm chopped off by her attackers.

The arrested man is a neighbour to Kainga’s family.

It is said he connived with the other thugs to kill the lady. Over the weekend, 51 year-old Lucia Nyakainga was attacked by four unknown men together with her husband in Chitipa district.

Her husband, Yohane Mfungwe said the four men broke into the couple’s house in the early hours of Saturday and threatened to kill them.

It is said that another family heard a scream outside and they opened the door to check what was transpiring with the person calling for help. The men then chopped off the woman’s arm and went away with it. They also injured the husband.

Mfungwe, was the first to be assaulted with a plank of wood on his way out to help.

It was after this that Mfungwe fell down and collapsed. The attackers then went ahead and attacked the wife with pangas, targeting her hands and the head, and leaving her with deep cuts on the neck and the left hand.

This comes hot in the heels of calls for government to consider introducing the death sentence on albino attackers.

But Peter Mutharika led government has however remained coy on this.
