The Flames Malawi have maintained third position in group L of the Afcon 2017 qualifiers after playing out a goalless draw with Guinea in at 28 September  on Friday in a match they used a borrowed jersey after the team misplaced the bag that had their official kits.

Guinea created a number of goal scoring chance in the opening minutes of the first half but the Flames goal minder was equal to the task as he kept on denying the home team from scoring.

At the other end, Guinea goalkeeper was on holiday as he was hardly troubled by the visitors’ striking force and the first half ended in a goalless draw.

Come second half, both teams came in with fresh ideas as they were in search of goals that would keep their chances of qualifying to next year’s Afcon alive but they failed to find the back of the net.

As the game was going to an end, Malawi could have hit the back of the net through Gabadinho Mhango but he missed the target and the game ended 0-0.

The draw means Malawi have 2 points from 3 matches. The Flames will again face Guinea on Tuesday at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

In other group L matches, Swaziland played out a 1 all draw with Zimbabwe and they will play the return leg in Zimbabwe next week.

Swaziland are still topping group L with 5 points whereas Zimbabwe are ranked second with the same number of points.
