President Peter Mutharika’s extravagance once again has not gone unnoticed.

After revelations by newly crowned PP third Vice President Kamlepo Kalua that the Malawi government had spent K150 million to buy a van for the state President, state house came clarifying that the figure was below that.

However, if the state house thought that the clarification would go down well with Malawians, Malawi24 can reveal that the plan has backfired. Malawians are taking to social media to condemn the extravagance.

” This latest shenanigan from President Peter Mutharika is a clear testimony to the fact that we do not need ageing, ailing old men as presidents in Malawi,” posted on Facebook Allan Ntata who is a renowned critic of the regime.

Ntata apparently went ahead to allege that Mutharika’s needing of a toilet was a clear sign that the Malawi leader was not enjoying good health owing to his old age.

Meanwhile others have faulted Mutharika for prioritising his personal comfort while the country battles poor services for service users.

State house justified its extravagance on the grounds that Mutharika was not using the helicopter on domestic travel.
