Justice Minister donates 500 bags of maize to the needy in Salima

As more than 2.8 million people are facing hunger in the country, Malawi’s Minister of Justice and Constitution Affairs Samuel Tembenu has distributed over five hundred bags of maize to orphans, the elderly, and child-headed families in Salima district .

In the last growing season, some parts of the country experienced heavy rains which washed away crops while in other parts there were dry spells.

Tembenu said he thought of sharing with others knowing that there are less privileged people out there who need food as they did not harvest much in the last growing season.

“I thought of coming and distribute maize knowing that we have entered the new year and others do not have food as they did not harvest much in the last rainy season,” said Tembenu.

He added that January is the month that most people are badly hit by hunger and economic problems that is why he thought of coming up with the donation.

“Most of the times January is the month most people find it hard to have food and I came up with this in order to lessen the pain of general January,” he said.

He appealed to well-wishers to come out and assist those in need as a way of celebrating the New Year.

  3. Where Did This Called Minister Got These Maize And What About The Money For Buying The Maize. If It Is From Constituency Development Fund, It Never A Donation. If The Money Used Is From His Pocket, Then, It Is A Donation. And If It Is Through Cashgate, Shame On Him. All In All This Mere Politics.

  9. Maize should be found in the ADMARC depots for people to be buying not to be found in the hands of DPP officials . Where did this guy get all these 500 bags when some of us are failing to buy 20kgs at ADMARC depots ? Can ACB do your investigation on this man of law please.

  12. On behalf of those they get the maize i said thank u to the Honorable Minister we need more people like u indeed. But please Minister advice the President that he must speak to the management of Agriculture to reduce the price of “Feteraiza” because the poor people cant aford to bury it it’s so expensive please they must do something about it. Other wise u will be a donor for ever.

  40. of course its good to donate such items to the needy but its a short solution as the maize will be used by the pipo for a short period and later on its finished. the only way this minister can solve the problem is to advise his president to empower malawians economically so that they can produce what they want and in large abundance. zinthu zogawazi sizisintha moyo wa anthu coz sizichedwa kutha koma apatseni a malawi zipangizo zokwanira kuti akolole mochuluka even if it means irrigation tools.
