The Malawi Human Rights Consultative Committee (MHRCC) has faulted riots by minibus drivers and conductors who were protesting against implementation of new road laws in the country.
The commercial city of Malawi, Blantyre, on Friday wore ugly scenes as minibus drivers and conductors took to the streets to show their discomfort on the implementation of the laws.
Police units and vehicles were torched by angry protestors in some areas such as Machinjiri, Zingwangwa and Ndirande.
A police officer is also reported to have been beaten and his rifle broken by the angry residents in Blantyre.
Reacting on the matter, MHRCC has faulted the riots arguing ‘dialogue’ could have been a best action.
MHCC chairperson Robert Mkwezalamba disclosed in a statement that the conduct by the protestors was “retrogressive” as millions of property was lost in the fracas.
Protests, over the same issue of fighting against the implementation of tough road laws, were also reported in Mzuzu as minibus drivers and conductors took to the streets on Saturday.
Why MHRCC has never condemned it’s stu********d government for imposing irrelevant laws on poor peoples lives??????????????????????
