President Peter Mutharika has asked the church in Malawi to take a leading role in fighting against evil acts happening in the country.
Mutharika made the remarks on Tuesday when he met representatives of Malawi Assemblies of God General Assembly at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.
Writing on his Facebook page after the meeting, the president said the church in Malawi should be at the forefront in the fight against evil.
“There are various evil acts happening in the country such as human trafficking; killing people with albinism; mob justice; jealousy and hate for one another,” wrote Mutharika.
He added that his government very much appreciates the role that the Malawi Assemblies of God church plays in providing for both the soul and body of Malawians.
“I therefore remain committed to support the church in their mission of service to Malawians,” Mutharika wrote.
He added that his government will do its best to make sure that the relationship that has existed between the Assemblies of God General Assembly and the Government of Malawi continues for the betterment of the lives of Malawians.
‘It is our expectation that the church will always act as a moral compass for society not to stray,’ Mutharika wrote.
