A 31 year old man in Ntchisi district has died after drowning in Bua River where he went to fish.
According to Public Relations Officer for Ntchisi police station Sergeant Gladson M’bumpha, the deceased has been identified as Samson Yona from Khasu village.
“The incident took place on 5 June 2016 after the deceased went fishing with his younger brother aged 14,” said M’bumpha.
He added that Yona was epileptic and whilst fishing, the younger brother left him at the river and went home.
But Yona was not returning home and his father became worried. The father mobilised other members of the community and they went to search for him.
The search team found Yona’s body in deep waters on Monday.
It is suspected that the deceased was attacked by epilepsy whilst fishing which forced him into the river.
Postmortem conducted at Malomo health centre indicated that Yona died of suffocation due to drowning and no foul play was suspected as the body had no marks of violence.
The deceased hailed from Khasu village T/A Chilooko in Ntcheu district.
