After reports of students withdrawing from public universities over failure to pay fees, Chancellor of the Universities Peter Mutharika who is also the state President has finally moved in to ease the situation.
Information that Malawi24 has indicates that the Malawi leader has ordered the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) which is tasked with disbursing loans to students to give all the withdrawn students loans.
Mutharika has ordered that the students who were denied loans and were forced to withdraw should be given both fees and upkeep allowances.
His decision comes after reports indicated that students from well-off families were being given the loan while students from poor backgrounds were excluded from the loans and later withdrew from the university.
