Police worried over acts of mob justice

The country’s security body, Malawi Police Service (MPS) says it is worried over the increase in number of cases to do with mob justice.

This comes barely days after angry mobs in Blantyre, Phalombe, and Nsanje, last week set ablaze three suspected thieves.

In an interview, Malawi Police Service spokesperson, Nicholas Gondwa, said this is too bad in as far as the country’s security is concerned.

He said this act is increasing now in the country though the country’s laws clearly state that everyone is innocent until proven guilty by the court.

“As the mother of security in the country, Malawi Police Service is worried with the increase of such acts. People have granted themselves powers to do whatever they want and we know that this is being done with the power of ignorance,” said Gondwa.

Meanwhile, Gondwa says MPS is mobilizing people on what to do with suspects.

He however, said people do this deliberately claiming they have been teaching them but they chose not to do be advised.

  6. So you wonder why? Lol you’re not serious. Bail is free the police say so but why do they in other stations demand for cash to effect bail in the cases that aren’t of that category?
    As I’m writing this comment a mob has burnt a house of a man who mystically killed a woman whom he suspected to have killed his three days old goat. The woman was first arrested by the police on this man’s demand then bail was granted when the relatives paid cash demanded by the police. When released the man is angry and he asks her, who released you? We shall see. In a short time the woman vomits blood and dies.
    On the other side our constitution is questionable here. The mob burnt his house and all his belongings that includes a sedan car.
    We’re not judges for judgement belongs to God.

We have to eleminate them in our society for they are a setback to development. If police is ready to eliminate them in the society they have to come open and act.
