Young couple arrested for murdering friend’s daughter after being promised K38m

Police at Kanengo in Lilongwe have arrested a 19-year-old husband and his 15-year-old partner for allegedly killing their colleague’s 6-year-old daughter after being promised 38 million Kwacha by some people.

This is according to public relations officer for Kanengo Police Station Sub Inspector Gresham Ngwira who identified the husband as Innocent Mbewe and his wife as Dorica Nkhoma who are suspected to have murdered Loyce Tembo aged 6.

Sub Inspector Ngwira said on October 21, 2023, the girl’s mother, Caroline Tembo reported to police that their daughter had gone missing and since then police have been investigating the matter.

On Monday, 23 October, 2023, police received information that the child had been buried in the suspects’ house at Chatata Village in the city where Tembo also stays.

It is reported that following the tip, officers went to the scene and upon arrival, they discovered a newly dug but wet wet pit with some flies on top.

This prompted police to dig it out and to their surprise, they found the dead body of Loyce put in a suck and in a decomposed state.

While still at the scene, the law enforcers received another tip that the suspects were seen at Area 24 in the city and police proceeded to the said place where they arrested the two suspects.

Police indicate that their preliminary investigations have revealed that the couple murdered the innocent girl after being promised to be given 38 million Kwacha by some people.

Post-mortem done by medical personnel singled out loss of blood secondary to suffocation as cause of death. The two are expected to appear before court soon to answer charges of murder.

Innocent Mbewe hails from Mbeta Village, Traditional Authority Mgabu in Nsanje district while his partner Dorica Nkhoma hails from Tobiyasi Village Traditional Authority Lukwa in Kasungu district.
