A 28-year old domestic helper has been sentenced to nine months in prison for stealing items worth K1 Million from his boss’ house in Bangwe Township.
Limbe Police Deputy Publicist Widson Nhlane said the convict Charles Heleks was employed as a servant by a businessman in Blantyre.
On February 1, 2018, while the businessman was at his shop he received a phone call from one of his neighbours telling him that Charles had stolen items from the house and ran away.
“When he went to the house he found that Heleks had stolen Plasma TV, DVD player, Decoders, Duvets, Bed sheets and K150,000 cash,” Nhlane.
The publicist said the 28 year old man has been at large until in the month of September when he was arrested at Kachere and his arrest helped the officers to recover all the said items which were positively identified by the owner.
Charles Heleks pleaded guilty to the charge of theft when he appeared before Third grade magistrate court at Dalton.
He was then sentenced to 9 months in prison.
Meanwhile, the Police are appealing to employers to verify the criminal records of their employees with the police, to avoid employing suspicious people.
The convict hails from Mpasu village in the area of Traditional Authority Chapananga in Chikwawa district.
