Boy, 11, killed in road accident

A boy aged 11 identified as James Shaibu has died after being hit by a minibus in the lakeshore district of Nkhotakota.

Nkhotakota Police Station deputy spokesperson Paul Malimwe has told Malawi24 that the accident happened at Mpamantha trading centre along Salima-Nkhotakota M5 road.

According to Malimwe, Clement Phiri was driving a Toyota Hiace minibus registration number KK 4011 heading towards Nkhotakota boma from Salima district direction.

“Upon reaching Mpamantha trading centre, he hit the boy who was trying to cross the road,” Malimwe said.

Due to the impact the boy sustained serious injuries in the head and was pronounced dead on the way to the hospital.

The deceased James Shaibu hailed from Makumba village, Senior Chief Malengachanzi in Nkhotakota.
Meanwhile, police are reminding all road users to observe traffic regulations especially at night to avoid such deaths.
