A year after Human Rights Consultative Committee (HRCC) promised to investigate police brutality during demonstrations at Chancellor College (Chanco), the students seem to have lost hope that they are to get a report on the matter.
During the fees must fall demonstrations at Chanco last year, a police officer was seen in a video clip assaulting female students.
The police officers were also reported to have fired teargas canisters in hostels used by students with disabilities.
Following the incident, HRCC promised to give a detailed report on the matter to authorities for action but up to now the report is yet to be released.
The delay to have the report out has angered students who through their union president Sylvester Ayuba James have accused the HRCC of “lying”.
“As students we have been waiting for a report for us to take action and people wanted to know the truth of the matter,” said Ayuba James.
Meanwhile the police have disclosed that they are waiting for the HRCC report for their action on the police officers involved in the brutality.
