A three-year-old boy has died in Mchinji district after drowning in a well.
Mchinji Police spokesperson Kaitano Lubrino has confirmed the death of the boy to Malawi24 and he identified the child as Precious Martin.
According to Lubrino, during the day of the incident the boy’s family was busy with other household chores while the small boy was playing near the well.
“The boy slipped into the well which is 10 metres deep. Efforts were made to save his life but it was too late as the time he was being taken out the boy had already taken his last breath,” Lubrino said.
Postmortem conducted at Mchinji District Hospital revealed that the boy died due to asphyxia as secondary to drowning.
The deceased hailed from Mzenje village, Traditional Authority Zulu in Mchinji district.
Meanwhile police are advising the general public to closely monitor their children to avoid occurrence of such kind of avoidable accidents in the country.
It’s so sad. I can imagine the pain and guilt the parents feel. There is need to foresee danger signals although it’s not easy.
