Concerns raised over delay of road in Limbe

Concerns have been raised over delay to complete part of the road stretching from Illovo roundabout to Midima in Limbe town.

According to reports, construction firm Fargo Engineering Limited started works on the one kilometre stretch from Illovo to Midima roundabout six months ago but the phase which was expected to take three months is yet to be completed.

road-constructionOne of the road users Chachacha Munthali who is also a veteran journalist noted that the project has been dragging since the phase the engineering firm is currently working on should have been completed months ago.

“If it takes the company that long for such a short distance, I shudder to think how long it would take to complete 100km. The construction works in Limbe were supposed to last 90 days but from what I have seen over the past weeks, we still have a long way to go.

“It took the company forever to finish the Kenyatta Drive in Blantyre and at the end of the day we were sold short as it gave us one of the shoddiest works of road construction one can imagine,” Munthali wrote on Facebook.

The upgrading of the road between Illovo and Midima roundabouts is part of government’s project to rehabilitate city roads in the country.
