Fired workers of Financial Holdings Limited (FDH) have entered fourth day of vigil at the bank’s headquarters in Blantyre where they are demanding compensation money.
The development follows the company’s decision to fire 250 employees from both FDH and Malawi Savings Bank (MSB) after the two banks were merged.
Speaking to the local press, one of the fired employees Chifundo Soko said the group will continue holding the vigil until the payments are made through their bank accounts.
“We have to do it until our money is paid into our accounts, they fired us two weeks ago but up to date they haven’t given us anything,” said Soko.
Soko further said the employees are angry that they were fired without notice letters.
FDH Group Head of Marketing Sobhuza Ngwenya said the company fired the 250 employees from FDH and MSB as one way of ensuring good service delivery at the two banks.
Its a MUST for the bank to pay people they have slashed otherwise, face the law.
