Police in Zomba district are keeping in custody a 39 year-old man for beating and injuring his ex-wife on suspicion that she was having an affair with another man.
According to eastern region police spokesperson, Sergeant Otilia Kumanga, the suspect has been identified as Wati James.
Relatives of the suspect said the couple got divorced some months ago. However the man insisted that the two are still in love.
On the day of the incident, the suspect got tipped that his ex-wife was seen with another man whom people in the area including James suspected to be her new husband.
The man later went where the two were seen together and found them. He started beating the woman until she fainted.
The matter was later reported to police who went the scene and arrested James while the woman was taken to Zomba central hospital where she has been admitted.
The suspect, who is expected to appear before court soon to answer charges of injuring a wife, hails from the area of Traditional Authority Malombe in the district.
