Thugs on Wednesday exhumed the body of an albino in Machinga and stole the corpse, police say.
According to eastern region police publicist, Otilia Kumanga, the thugs dug up the body of the boy two days after he was buried at Kalolo village in the area of Traditional Authority Nsanama in Machinga.
Kumanga said two days after burial of the boy, his relatives visited the grave to check if nothing has happened as required by tradition.
The relatives then found that the grave had been dug and the body of the boy had been stolen together with the coffin in which he was put.
They reported the matter to authorities who later rushed to the police to report the incident.
Meanwhile, the police are yet to arrest anyone in connection with the criminal act but they have vowed to continue investigations until the criminals are apprehended.
The incident comes barely days after the end of a sensitization campaign by the Malawi Police Service aimed at informing communities in the Eastern Region on how to deal with killings and abductions of people with albinism.
