Daring thugs on Monday stole a gun from a police officer as she was guarding World Vision International office premises in Thyolo district, Malawi police officials say.

The thugs injured the officer during the robbery and she is receiving treatment at the district’s hospital.

Police identified the officer as Elida Kusakala who was guarding World Vision International offices in the district.

Reports show that the thugs attacked the police officer as she was doing rounds in front of the building with two other officers.

It is said that these criminals tied up the guard who was watching over the premises but it is not known whether the thugs had planned to steal at the institution.

Kadadzera said that it has also been established that the thugs went away with the officer’s gun. He said they had not yet arrested anyone on the matter saying investigations are still underway.
