Man found dead in sewage

Manase residents on Sunday found the body of a dead man floating in a sewer in the area.

Police say that they have launched investigations but it is believed that the man was killed and then thrown into the sewage.

In an interview, Blantyre police publicist, Elizabeth Divala identified the deceased as Elias Ndembo, 34 who was residing in Manyowe Township but hailed from the area of Traditional Authority Chowe in Mangochi district.

In a separate interview with this publication, a young brother to the deceased, Davie Ndembo, said his brother was a driver and he last reported home on Thursday, January 21. On that day, he told his relatives he was driving his boss to Zomba but he did not go back home.

On Saturday, some children went to the sewage area where they found a trouser with an identity card, driving license and other documents in the pocket but did not see a body. They took the items to the sewage personnel who gave them to officers at Manase police.

Davie said the dead body was seen floating on Sunday, a development that attracted people’s attention. Later, the police went to the area and took out the dead body from the sewer.

The body was in a decomposed state and it had some bruises. Meanwhile, Blantyre police says anyone who feels has relevant information on the matter should inform them.
