Mwai Kumwenda nominated for IWGA athlete of the year award

After being named Airtel Malawi’s brand ambassador on Wednesday afternoon, Malawi National Netball Team shooter Mwai Kumwenda has been nominated for the International World Games Association (IWGA) athlete of the year award.

18 candidates from different sports disciplines were nominated together with the former Escom Sisters shooter.

Last year, the 26 year-old was named player of the tournament at the Netball World Cup in Sydney.

According to statistics for the World Cup tournament, the shooter had a shot success rate of 91 percent and netted 321 goals in eight games.

She is the only African netballer competing in New Zealand, the world’s best netball league.

She is also the most decorated netballer the country has produced so far.
