ArrestedThe Blantyre Magistrate court on Friday sentenced a 44 year-old Malawian man to 9 years imprisonment with hard labor for being found in possession of 52 bags of chamba.

Southern Region Police assistant publicist, James Kaledzera, identified the man as Yasin Umali and said he was caught with the bags at Zalewa roadblock.

He said: “After searching him at Zalewa roadblock we recognised that he carried 52 bags of chamba weighing 2000 grams.”

Police have since asked the public to avoid being involved in such cases as they will not stop dealing with law breakers.

Umali hails from Chiwambo Village in the area of Traditional Authority Maganda in Salima district.
