Events turned sour at Portuguese Club in Lilongwe over the weekend during an all-star urban music concert as a musician who was on the list of performers got away with a car that is not his.

New kid on the block, Charisma of the Kubanda fame, was a topic of discussion as he left the place in a vehicle belonging to renowned musician cum producer Janta.

Reports indicate that the Divorce hitmaker was amidst the crowd when his car went missing.

However rising star, Tsar Leo, has laughed off the theft claims arguing his fellow musician did what he had to do, protecting the car from being damaged by an angry mob.

“Charisma did not steal a car, he was trying to get the car to safety,” said Leo.

Information seen by this publication shows that Charisma refused to take to stage after organisers, Unique Arts Entertainment, compromised artists’ payments on the grounds of poor patronage. This did not please Charisma who only went on stage to say he was not performing because he was not satisfied with the organisers’ decision.

This angered patrons who demanded Charisma’s head for not honouring the plan. As a matter of safety, the musician sought refuge in Janta’s car who then started the engine.

But before the wheel went any further, angry patrons stoned the car with an aim of smashing it into pieces. Since two other vehicles were in front of them, it was hard for the musicians to make it out of the gate as such the car was put to a halt.

Janta who was driving is said to have got out of the car only to find himself in the hands of angry people. As he got lost inside the crowd, less attention was given to the vehicle which carried Charisma who was then the most wanted. However other people still aimed at the car which forced Charisma to escape with it when the entrance cleared up, as a way of protecting it from damage.

Tsar Leo who was also among the performers concurred with Charisma on lack of seriousness from the organisers. He is reported to have pocketed a minibus fare and not the agreed upon payment.

But as a way of preserving his energy for profitable future performances, Charisma could not take peanuts for payments.

The sad ending to the highly publicised music event has put the organisers under fire with people pointing fingers at them for not honouring the agreements.

“We don’t work for free out here. It’s unfair what the show organisers did to us yesterday!” shouted Tsar Leo.
