China donates K12m for Lilongwe market reconstruction

The Chinese Chamber of Commerce has donated 12 million Kwacha to Lilongwe City Council to be used for the reconstruction of Lilongwe Central Market which was gutted by fire a week ago.

Presenting the cheque, Chinese Ambassador to Malawi Shi Ting Wang said the money is to assist vendors who lost goods and money to rebuild their stalls and continue with their businesses.

In another development, the People’s Republic of China has pledged to construct five community colleges in the country.

This was disclosed in Lilongwe by the Chinese Ambassador to Malawi Shi Ting Wang during the 67th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China.

Ambassador Shi said the construction of the colleges is one of the many projects his government has embarked on in Malawi. He added that China is committed to strengthening its cooperation with Malawi to achieve economic growth.

In his remarks, Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Samuel Tembenu said Malawi could realize its full economic potential by embracing the three pillars of development advocated by President Arthur Peter Mutharika.
