Malawi Electoral Support Network (MESN) says it will actively take part in ensuring that the by-elections slated for November this year do not meet the challenges that were observed in 2014 general tripartite elections.
The chairperson of the organisation Stevie Duwa said the 2014 tripartite elections had challenges which they don’t want to happen in the November by-elections.
“The 2014 elections had challenges like poor transportation and delay of ballot papers to the polling station, so we are doing our best by working hand in hand with Malawi Electoral Commission to make the by-elections a success,” said Duwa.
He added that their office as a supporting body has joined hands with Centre for Multiparty Democracy to make sure that everything is set in time.
The by-elections will be held on November 1, 2016 in one constituency and four wards which have been without representation.
The areas are as follows:
- Mchinji West Constituency
- Kaliyeka Ward in Lilongwe
- City South East Constituency
- Sadzi Ward in Zomba Central Constituency
- Bunda Ward in Kasungu Central Constituency
- Bembeke Ward in Dedza South Constituency
